Museum Collections at DakshinaChitra

DakshinaChitra’s exquisite collection of artifact includes a beautiful set of traditional handmade leather puppets from Andhra Pradesh. These shadow puppets are highly ornate and the details are painted with natural colors. Measuring 3 to 4 feet in height, these puppets have flexible limbs and very expressive faces. The characters depicted are from the two great epics Ramayana and Mahabharatha. The ten headed Ravana and Krishna and Arjun on ratha are unique examples of this puppet- making tradition. The collection is put on display only on special occasion and the visitors will get an opportunity to see them during the Dussehra Festival at DakshinaChitra along with GOLU display in the heritage houses.
