Meet Our Folk Performing Artist Prabhakaran
Prabhakaran was born as a second child to Smt Saraswathi , the House Keeping Assistant in DakshinaChitra and Sri. Kothandaraman.
Prabhakaran’s talent and interest as a young boy was noticed when he was 11years old and he joined the troupe of folk dancers started by DakshinaChitra for a small group of Muttukadu children. His dance teacher Sri Kannan Kumar, recognised his talent as a young performer while giving him lessons on Oyillattam, Devarattam and Tappattam.
Prabhakaran also learnt to play purcussions instrument Thappu Urulai etc. He was chosen as one of the participants of the junior India, Stars, led by Ms. V.R. Devika Managing Trustee Aseema Trust, Chennai to perform at the gift of Magi, Children’s Festival in Madrid. . He was paricularly amazed at the artists performance in the rope walking, stilt walking and acrobatics. He would like to work with the folk performing artists and do everything possible to preserve hteir traditional form.
He expresses his gratitude towards his parents for constant supportand encouragement, dance teacher Sri Kannan Kumar, Ms. V.R. Devika of Aseema Trust and DakshinaChitra for the opportunity and exposure.
The parents are very happy and proud of their son and they feel this is a dream come true moment for them.
