DakshinaChitra and Crafts

Artisans and folk performing artists have an important role to play in DakshinaChitra. Craft promotion and craft development are our major goals. Traditional craft and textiles are exhibited throughout the center.

For over a decade the Madras Craft Foundation has been organising direct marketing opportunities for craftspeople, through the schemes supported by the Office of the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, and through direct marketing facilities at our craft bazaar and our craft shop.

DakshinaChitra operates a fair trade craft shop with crafts purchased directly from artisans and NGOs (non-governmental organisation).
