Internship Diploma 2008-09



Course Information

Course structure

The internship diploma programme is a full time course taught in Chennai over three trimesters from mid-June 2008 to end-May 2009.

The course content is taught through modules.

Trimester I
(June 2008 to November 2008)

Courses:  Approaches to Cultural Studies, Appreciation of Indian and Western Art, Art & Design

Practical Experience:  Assisting in the projects at DakshinaChitra

Trimester II
(December 2008 to March 2009)

Courses:  Management, Media & Communication, Graphic & Web Design, Cultural Tourism, Changing Notions of Museums, Performing Arts, Design Movements, Video Documentation with Field Studies (to equip interns to make audio-video presentations)

Practical Experience:  A six-week guided group project that is publicly exhibited at DakshinaChitra

Trimester III
(April 2009 – May 2009)

April and May are devoted to the individual projects of interns which are mentored by subject specialists. The project is to be presented to an independent jury consisting of relevant experts.

Course schedule

The course work is covered in a weekly schedule of five days comprising of morning & afternoon sessions. In addition, students are expected to attend at least five city-based cultural events every month as a means of awareness building as well as material collection for classroom discussion and review. Interns are expected to attend and participate in all programs and activities at DakshinaChitra.


Teaching & learning methodologies

Teaching and learning methodologies are primarily interactive and include

  • Lectures
  • Audio-video presentations
  • Seminars
  • Group discussions
  • Reviews
  • Studio work, and,
  • Field visits

The course is project work oriented. Interns will be expected to assist and work on projects at DakshinaChitra concurrently with their course work. The internship culminates in a major individual project, which is critical to the successful completion of the course.

The medium of instruction is English.


Faculty

The faculty for the programme is drawn from leading institutions across Chennai.

Prominent industry professionals and academics committed to the arts support the programme as lecturers and visiting faculty.


Evaluation

Evaluation for each course is based on examinations, assignments and individual and group projects.
