The Madras Craft Foundation Institute of Arts Management (MCFIAM) aims to address the pressing issue of creating professionals sensitive to India's art and culture by providing them with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required to successfully develop and manage institutions involved in the area of the arts.
History
2008-09 will mark the fourth year of the course. MCFIAM is currently supported by the JRD Tata Trust, Mumbai.
Objectives
The eleven-month internship aims to introduce interns to
A foundation of knowledge on Indian and world art
Theories of culture
The world of art, design and visual thinking through an appreciation of both historical & contemporary works and issues
Management as a system and various managerial processes involved in conceptualising, planning, budgeting, organizing and implementing projects in the field of the arts
The various forms of mass media as information and communication vehicles
The course content draws upon different disciplines and is customized to suit the requirements of effectively managing and communicating art and culture at various levels - regional, national and international.
Included in the design and teaching of the courses is an emphasis on the art, architecture and culture of south India, adding a unique dimension to the program.
