The DakshinaChitra
Museum Collection numbers 3350 artefacts, of which 2405
are objects while the remaining 945 are textiles. These
are mainly from the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala,
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The objects are primarily
those used in daily living.
The objects are primarily items from everyday
life. Our textile collection consists of mainly cotton and
silk attires male (dhoti, lungi, kurta, turban, cap, ceremonial
attire),female (saree, blouse, half saree, full skirt, set
mundu, veil, scarf), furnishings, yardage (Real Madras Handkerchief,
Ikat, Kalamkari), Telia Rumal, decorative wall hangings
and ritual textiles.
