Puppetry Festival at DakshinaChitra: March 1st to 10th, 2002, 2002, 36:24, Rs.200/-

PuppetryDakshinaChitra organized a festival of Puppetry and Animation to create awareness of traditional puppetry and to aid in the promotion of puppetry as a means of contemporary communication and entertainment.

This CD presents the following video documentations on puppetry.

  1. Tholpavakoothu from Kerala by Tholpava Koothu & Puppet Centre, Kerala
    The leather puppet shadow play is presented periodically at the Bhagavathi or Bhadrakali temples of Palghat and neighbouring areas as part of the ritualistic worship of the goddess. The group has performed all over India and abroad.

  2. Yakshagana Puppetry by Shri Ganesh Yakshagana Gombeyata Mandali, Karnataka
    The Uppini Kudra Kamath’s family are well known exponents of Yakshagana style stringed puppets.

  3. Tripura Puppetry by Tripura Puppet Theatre, Tripura
    This troupe presented “Janmadin” a puppet play about khuku, a little girl’s bithday party, and the flowering plants.

  4. Contemporary puppetry show by Dolls Theatre, Kolkata.
    A group of young puppeteers from Kolkata presented contemporary puppets in “Taming of the Wild”.
