Ramu’s Terracotta Range

Ramu Velar a master potter from Viriyanipatti of Tamilnadu practices the art of pottery handed down to him through generations. At DakshinaChitra he demonstrates his skill to visitors behind the Potters House in the Tamilnadu Section.

He is adept at making traditional pots and lamps of various designs and sizes and also more modern utility items such as bird baths, planters, wall hangings, special lamps and even Tulasi maadams.

I am happy to be here as it gives me an opportunity to take my craft to a cross section of people and it has given me good exposure.

I especially enjoy teaching children who visit DakshinaChitra
